California State Parks in Danger!

In his proposed budget for FY '08-'09, Governor Schwarzenegger has called for the closing of 48 of California's state parks and for taking lifeguards away from 16 state beaches. Coastwalk opposes the loss of public access to our commons - especially to our coast (over a half of the total coastal land in California open to the public is within the State Park system!).

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?

  • Contact your state legislators to register your strong opposition to this disastrous proposal. Click here to learn who your legislators are and how to contact them.
  • Join in a day hike at an Endangered State Park near you! We're holding one at Manchester State Park in Mendocino on May 18, 2008. Please join us in showing our love for this treasured local Park! Stay tuned to the Coastwalk website for more info on other walks in the coming weeks.
  • Host a day hike in an Endangered State Park near you! Contact Coastwalk for more information, or download a fact-sheet about leading a day hike here.
  • Visit the Save Our State Parks website for more ideas
