Humboldt Coastwalk, Friday Evening Campfire, June 2001

We asked everyone to comment on their highlight of the trip.

Lars - The forest was wonderful, especially the Skunk Cabbage trail. I wouldn't have missed it even with the rain.

Marsha Sue -- I liked all the conversations, the laughs. I appreciate how much you enjoyed my kids. I also liked the interlude in Arcata with Lar's family.

Yvonne - I enjoyed having a day alone today. I also enjoyed the small group hike from the Orrick Community Center when the sun graced Orrick for the day.

Kristen - This is the most interesting group of all the Coastwalks I've been on, with a variety of age groups, all united, having gone through our crises together. My favorite hike was the hour with Jenny Hanson at the LBJ grove.

Gerry - I would have liked the rainy day hike if I could have forgotten about wet tents at the end.

Sarah - I met two Coastwalk hikers on the rim trail. They couldn't get into this hike so decided to come here and hike anyway. This confirms that we are getting people to come out and use these trails.

Ken - My highlight was the big cormorant drying its wings on the rainy day hike.

Helen - I enjoyed all the beautiful scenery here and our stay at the community center.

Jim - I really liked the first two canyon hikes and the bird noises.

Jeff - I enjoyed yesterdays hike along the old Hwy. I and seeing how nature is reclaiming it.

Bob - I echo all the comments and also appreciate how our children were welcomed. I liked the banana slugs and the fungus, the beautiful days after the rain, and the new friends and old ones.

Jeanne - Tuesday was the most memorable, fantasizing about a warm and dry motel and then actually getting it. I want to come back and do the Skunk Cabbage trail again.

Ann - I loved the hike in the rain and the elk on the first day, so close and calm.

Phyllis - I liked every part, especially the time in the Community Center. The Highlight was beating Jim at cribbage.

Penny - I liked sleeping in the tent and the wildflowers on the sides of the Skunk Cabbage trail.

Gary - I liked the two nights stay at Patrick's Point Park and being able to walk alone on the rim trail. I enjoyed the friendly, personable walkers.

Ted - My highlight was seeing the gray jay, a new bird for me. I liked the beach walk yesterday, although walking through the trees is my favorite.

Pat - I liked the red alder grove north of Fem Canyon.

Sook -- This is my first Coastwalk and first time with a big group. I liked every day because it was different. I appreciated a nice and warm place in the rain.

Jake (child) -- My favorite day was Tuesday, although some parts were not fun. I liked it because I didn't think I could make it, but I did.

Hailey (child) -- On Monday I lost one of my shoes off a bridge and had to walk in my socks. I liked the Elk. They are really cute. My favorite day was Tuesday in the rain.

Jill - I worried all day Tuesday about finding a dry place for us. I was so grateful that the hikers could say how they felt and that they worked together to do what was needed for their comfort and the comfort of the group.

Terry -- Led us in a song "I love the mountains."

Inge -- I liked the community melding at the Orrick Center. I worried about the families separating, but they were able to come together again.

Barbara - I loved meeting everyone, loved birding and that there were knowledgeable birders in the group.
