Join us for a backpacking trek on Santa Cruz Island, the largest of California's eight Channel Islands and one of five that make up the Channel Islands National Park. SCI is often called "the Galapagos of North America" because of the abundant and sometimes unique plant and animal life found on and around the island. The Island supports approximately 900 species of plants and animals, including 12 found nowhere else on Earth.
We'll travel by boat from Ventura Harbor to Scorpion Cove and camp there the first two nights. While at Scorpion, you'll have the opportunity to hike or relax. The third day we'll backpack a strenuous 10 miles up and over a 1500 ft. ridge to secluded Del Norte campground, offering great views seldom seen by most visitors. On the final day we'll hike to Prisoner's Harbor, then return to Ventura Harbor in the afternoon.
Hikers bring all their own gear, including food, and prepare their own meals. Pack it in, pack it out policy - no garbage disposal on island. Pit toilets but no showers.
Maximum registration is 14.
