Backpack with Coastwalk California for 3 nights and 4 days just 50 miles from San Francisco at beautiful Point Reyes National Seashore. The San Francisco Chronicle has called the Coastal Trail in Point Reyes the best trail in the entire bay area. It’s a special place with dramatic scenery, not to be missed.
We’ll average 6-7 miles a day for a total of 30 miles (including optional day hikes). We’ll camp at three walk-in camps. Sky Camp overlooks Point Reyes and Drakes Bay; Coast Camp is near the wave cut and scoured Sculptured Beach; and Wildcat Camp is just above dramatic Wildcat beach where, a mile down the beach, Alamere Falls drops right onto the beach. On the last day we’ll pass by Bass Lake, a scenic location surrounded by dense forest, where there will be time to swim.
Hikers bring all their own gear, including food, and prepare their own meals. Some backpacking experience, good hiking condition and proper equipment are required. There are several short but strenuous climbs. If participants have doubts about completing the hike, or have a medical condition, consult with the Coastwalk office for clarification.
