Spend the night on an historic sailing ship in SF Bay!

This adventure features a two day hike, an overnight stay on the Balclutha (we stay berthed for the whole adventure) complete with sea chanteys, and three meals. We will begin our hike on the Coastal Trail at San Francisco's Ocean Beach. We will hike the trail past the historic cliff house and through Land's End, a spectacular wild place on the bluffs high above the Bay with breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Headlands, and the Farallon Islands. We'll see the ruins of the old Sutro Baths and the place with Aldoph Sutro opened his gardens to the public on Sunday afternoons. Lunch will be at beautiful Baker Beach. We move on to the Presidio, the newest national park, hiking through beautifully restored wild areas.

We arrive at the Hyde Street Pier at the end of our first day of hiking to claim our gear and board the Balclutha. This fascinating sailing ship is rich with history. Throughout the vessel are displays showing what life was like when she was an active mercantile ship. We'll enjoy happy hour snacks, a delicious evening meal and look forward to some surprises as well.

After dinner you’ll be free to turn in early, join a group for a walk down to see the world famous sea lions at Pier 39, or taste the famous Irish Coffee at the Buena Vista.  Just sitting alone on the wharf, looking out at the lights in Marin and the City and listening to the water lap against the ship may be just right for your mood-and you might be the one to spot the friendly marine mammals that often come to call.

But don’t stay up too late:  We’re up early the next morning.  We’ll have a yummy breakfast (supplied) and then clean up, and pack the gear back on to the gear van and be ready for our special guest.  We’ll spend some time learning about the history of the ship, sing some sea chantys,  and visit the surrounding antique vessels.  Perhaps we’ll see some of the swimmers who go out early in the morning to swim in the frigid Bay waters (brrrrr!)

Then it is back out on the trail for more hiking.  We’ll hike all the way out to historic Ft. Point on a gloriously beautiful walk, ending in the restored Crissy Field for a farewell barbeque(supplied).  Again, a late lunch so bring a snack.  We’ll be shuttled back to our cars by private volunteer cars.  The gear van will meet us there at the parking garage.

Bring your own lunch for the first day, dinner will be provided. We will provide breakfast and lunch on the second day. You are encouraged to bring snacks for between meals, especially since our lunches will be on the later side.
