Spend the night on an historic sailing ship in SF Bay!
This adventure features a two day hike, an overnight stay on the Balclutha complete with sea chanteys, and three meals. We will begin our hike on the Coastal Trail at San Francisco's Ocean Beach. We will hike the trail past the historic cliff house and through Land's End, a spectacular wild place on the bluffs high above the Bay with breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Headlands, and the Farallone Islands. We'll see the ruins of the old Sutro Baths and the place with Aldoph Sutro opened his gardens to the public on Sunday afternoons. Lunch will be at beautiful Baker Beach. We move on to the Presidio, the newest national park, hiking through beautifully restored wild areas.
We arrive at the Hyde Street Pier at the end of our first day of hiking to claim our gear and board the Balclutha. This fascinating sailing ship is rich with history. Throughout the vessel are displays showing what life was like when she was an active mercantile ship. We'll enjoy a delicious evening meal and look forward to some surprises as well.
After breakfast on board the next morning we'll have a docent led tour of the ship to discover more about her history, and sing some sea chanteys together. Then it is time to set off for another day of hiking, which will include a visit to the Golden Gate Bridge, fascinating, historic Fort Point, and the Promenade, said to be the most beautiful urban walk in the country. Our walk ends with a delicious barbeque, fond farewells, and many wonderful memories to carry home.
Bring your own lunch for the first day, dinner will be provided. We will provide breakfast and lunch on the second day. You are encouraged to bring snacks for between meals, especially since our lunch will be on the later side.
