The expansive Mendocino coast is the setting for this classic week-long Coastwalk adventure, combining magnificent coastal day hikes with relaxing campfire nights.
Join intrepid hiker Bob Lorentzen, author of Hiking the California Coastal Trail, renowned naturalist Erica Fielder and other local guides as you discover the natural and cultural history of the breathtaking central Mendocino coast from MacKerricher Beach to Russian Gulch.
We’ll venture through the quiet coastal town of Fort Bragg, which in its heyday supported a bustling harbor and several of the most productive mills in lumber history, and visit the charming, restored Point Cabrillo Lighthouse.
Roaming the quaint Village of Mendocino is a perfect counterpoint to the geological trip through time we’ll take at Jughandle staircase. Let your cares melt away as we wander through a forest of towering redwoods and native rhododendrons, and explore the ancient pygmy forest. We’ll be inspired by local people working to conserve the spectacular Mendocino coastal wilderness and forest areas.
