Sonoma County teens and their mentors participated in the Second Annual CoasTrek outdoor learning adventure, June 19-24. Combining hiking, camping and kayaking with team- and leadership-building exercises, trail work, beach clean-ups and stewardship education, the Trek was the culmination of weeks of learning for these youth. Each committed to stewarding a local beach and creek over six months, and to recruiting peers to participate in Coastal Cleanup Day on September 16th. Along the way, the 15-18 year olds learned about marine ecosystems, invasive species removal, coastal access issues and stewardship principles. These are the coastal stewards of tomorrow!
This program was made possible by a generous grant from the California Coastal Commission's Whale Tail License Plate Program.

Our Mission: In the United States alone, more than 3,000 species of animals and more than 300 species of plants are listed as endangered or threatened. Sadder yet, up to 100 animal species become extinct every day. Endangered Species Chocolate was founded in 1993 in an effort to spread awareness and to make an impact on the growing number of plant and animal species that are disappearing from Earth. Endangered Species Chocolate donates 10 percent of its net profits to organizations that are committed to protecting endangered animal and plant species. Many bars have been named for an endangered animal, and inside our labels chocolate lovers can read about the plight of these animals and learn how to contact specific organizations for more information.
