CoasTrek 4 Youth Leadership Program 2006

Sonoma County teens and their mentors participated in the Second Annual CoasTrek outdoor learning adventure, June 19-24. Combining hiking, camping and kayaking with team- and leadership-building exercises, trail work, beach clean-ups and stewardship education, the Trek was the culmination of weeks of learning for these youth. Each committed to stewarding a local beach and creek over six months, and to recruiting peers to participate in Coastal Cleanup Day on September 16th. Along the way, the 15-18 year olds learned about marine ecosystems, invasive species removal, coastal access issues and stewardship principles. These are the coastal stewards of tomorrow!

This program was made possible by a generous grant from the California Coastal Commission's Whale Tail License Plate Program.

On behalf of Ocean Song Farm & Wilderness Center and Earthways Foundation, we would like to THANK YOU for choosing to begin your journey at Ocean Song! We had an amazing time working and playing with all of you while you were here. We were both truly inspired by the active participation of the youth, their depth of sharing, and the nurturing environment that the staff helped to create for this program.
